Athena's Warriors are Hartford District Champions!

Updated: May 13, 2022

After months of hard work and dedicated effort from everyone on FRC team 3182, we have risen to the hall of champions, taking home our first blue banner!

Athena’s Warriors, along with FRC team 195, the CyberKnights from Southington, CT, and FRC team 88, TJ² from Bridgewater-Raynham, MA, took first place at the NE FIRST Hartford District Event. We were the third pick for the second place alliance and used our strong defensive strategies to make it through all three playoff rounds and upset the number one alliance through a best of three finals round that went to a third tiebreaker match.

This is our first competition victory in team history, and the NE FIRST district rankings points we earned at this competition placed us in the top 50 teams in all of New England. With 80 teams qualifying for the New England District Championship, this is the also first time our team has qualified for the regional level of competition!

Thanks to the outstanding work of our business team students, we were also awarded the Entrepreneurship Award for our business plan summary. Any FRC team can reference our full business plan and the summary thanks to our public resource library, Pantainos.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the relentless efforts made by every member of the team.

  • Our newest mentor Scott was recognized as a Woodie Flower’s Award Nominee

  • Sophomores Muktha and Jonathan were recognized as Dean’s List Semi-Finalists

  • Our safety captain Ben was named a Safety Star of the Day

  • Ivy, Suma, and Tyler delivered our Chairman’s presentation to explain how Athena’s Warriors exemplifies the core values and mission of FIRST

  • Our seniors, Sam, Pranav, and Tyler, took the lead on the drive team, with help from human players, technicians, and pit crew Dante, Zach, Muktha, Ivy, Ben and John

Since kickoff, we have all been working hard to make this happen. Between the Waterbury and Hartford district events, we improved our robot’s intake, modified the shooter to aim high, and implemented a traversal mechanism for our hanger. At our home base, MakerspaceCT, we have presented our robot to makers, given tours to visitors, learned new skills, and explored new tools like laser cutters and plasma cutters.

Through challenges and hardships, we have prevailed and we are now seeing the fruits of our labor! You can follow us @team3182 on Instagram and continue to check our website for progress updates. The New England District Championship will be streamed on Twitch during April 14-16, so be sure to check it out!

Special thanks to our sponsors that made this season possible: Comcast, Medtronic, and Raytheon Technologies, as well as the NASA Program Growth grant and our strategic partners, 4-H and MakerspaceCT.
